Inspire & Invest: Art for a Purpose Featuring Lilian Mao

  • San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles 520 South 1st Street San Jose, CA, 95113 (map)

Join us for a special evening at the Museum, where art and inspiration converge! This fundraiser features the incredible works of Lilian Mao, a talented artist with a rich background in embroidery design, documentary filmmaking, holistic culinary arts, and positive living.

Beginning her career in 1990, Lilian studied documentary filmmaking at the SFSU Film Department as a visiting scholar and spent the next ten years in the Bay Area filming various television documentaries. In 2008, after being diagnosed with diabetes, she devoted herself to researching a natural low-carb healthy diet and transitioned to a career as a private chef, often teaching cooking classes. Later, in 2010, Lilian transformed her life experiences into a vibrant expression of creativity, culminating in her stunning "wood art paintings," created in collaboration with folk craft artisans in Yiwu, China. After overcoming cancer and kidney failure in 2018, Lilian is now an online columnist committed to promoting healthy living, hoping to inspire others to face their challenges with optimism.

During the event, you'll have the unique opportunity to meet Lilian, learn about her artistic process, and discover the deeper meanings behind her work. All proceeds from the sale of her pieces will help support the Museum and continue Lilian’s mission of celebrating nature's beauty, ultimately making this limited life more beautiful.

Enjoy an evening of art, community, and the chance to hear Lilian's inspiring story. Together, let’s honor creativity and the spirit of giving!
