Volunteer With Us

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles! Are you looking to leverage your skills and create a positive impact on your community? Our Board is an energized group of passionate community members dedicated to the Museum’s mission of preserving, celebrating, and promoting knowledge about quilts and textiles, their creation, their beauty, and their relationship to human culture and expression. The Museum is growing, and we invite you to consider joining our board of directors as we scale our programs and impact.

To learn more about supporting the Museum as a board member, please send your resume and a brief statement about why you are interested in joining us to kris@sj-mqt.org.

Not quite ready for a long-term commitment? We also need volunteers to help with:

Retail Operations

Our Museum Shop is open from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and 11:00 am - 5:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The main responsibilities include opening/closing the Museum, ringing up admission and gift store sales, and answering questions about our Museum, current and upcoming exhibits, and workshops. We offer flexible scheduling!

Administrative Assistance

Assist our Museum staff with administrative tasks such as filing documents, organizing records, and maintaining inventory of Museum materials. You will help manage correspondence by responding to emails, answering phone calls, and providing information to visitors and staff. Additionally, you may assist in data entry for membership and donation lists or event registrations, and support the preparation of promotional materials and reports. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will contribute to the smooth operation of the Museum's daily activities.

Docent-led Tours

We are currently redesigning our docent program and hope to train volunteers for upcoming exhibits soon. This is an on-call position and your primary responsibilities will include guiding visitors through exhibits, providing informative and engaging narratives about the Museum and artwork on display. Additionally, you may assist with special events, conduct tours for school groups, and help maintain the Museum's educational resources. A passion for learning and sharing knowledge, along with strong communication skills, will be essential to your role in fostering an appreciation for the Museum's collections.

Please fill out our Volunteer Intake Form and let us know what you're interested in and one of our friendly staff members will get back to you as soon as possible.
