The Woven Pixel
— Closing Sunday, May 17th —
The Woven Pixel explores the rise of digital weaving, which emerged in the early 2000s. It brings together a variety of work by artists and designers who experiment with digital looms and jacquard software. It pays tribute to two artists in particular, Bhakti Ziek and Alice Schlein, who wrote The Woven Pixel (2006), which quickly became something of a bible for weavers in art, design, and industry—and referenced still today. Because every intersection of warp and weft represents a pixel, weaving seamlessly merged with the earliest computer technologies. Today, digital weavers are altering the landscape of contemporary art and design using algorithmic painterliness, expressive structures, and flexible parametric forms. Curated by Sarah Mills.

Textile Cards with Mirka Knaster
Saturday, May 16th, 2026 from 10am to 1pm
There is no need to toss textile stuff into the landfill. Using a variety of fabrics, yarns, threads, papers, embellishments (beads, feathers, etc.), and whatever else is at hand, we will create abstract compositions to fit inside Strathmore photo frame cards (5”x7”). They can be used as unique cards for special occasions or inserted into inexpensive frames to become personal gifts of original art.

Threads of Thought: Ryan Carrington
Saturday, June 6th, 2026 at 2pm
"I grew up in a family that values labor, hard work, and creating with one’s hands. At the heart of all of my pieces lies a quiet homage to the modern-day craftsman and tradesman. My work bridges issues of labor, class, work ethic and economics with my personal and family history. Within my studio practice I delve deep into processes that parallel the monotony and tedium that laborers endure.
Through my art, I shed light on a corner of our society with a rich history of craftsmanship, process, and precision. By nurturing a fresh fascination of tools and materials, I provoke consideration for how we value each other in our ever-changing community. "

#141 Kris Jensen - Director of the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles
"Kris Jensen, Director of the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, has woven together a range of experiences in taking the helm of one of the Bay Area’s most niche and quietly radical museums. Born and raised in San Jose, Jensen grew up in a family of artists, but came in contact with the realities of food insecurity and housing instability after his mother passed away when he was still very young. Jensen’s father, a folk artist and interior designer, was accepting of all lifestyles at a time when that was uncommon, and frequently had friends from various communities at his house. That early exposure to diverse relationships and identities was part of what helped shape Kris’s understanding of social justice from a young age....Continue Reading on Content.
